What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition which affects the face in the form of dilated or broken blood vessels, redness, flushing, a burning or stinging sensation of the skin, sensitive skin, small red bumps, pus-filled spots, changes in the texture, appearance and size of one’s nose, swelling of eyelids or irritation of the eyes. The exact cause of rosacea is not fully understood, but genetics and the environment are contributing factors. Sunlight, alcohol, changes in weather (hot or cold), strenuous exercise, spicy food, caffeine and stress may cause rosacea flare ups. Demodex are mites which naturally live on your skin, but are often found in larger numbers on the skin of people with rosacea and maybe a contributing factor. People with rosacea often feel self conscious and avoid certain social situations, limit what food and drink they have and find even just exercising troublesome.
